The First Philippine Republic

Triumph arc of Aguinaldo

January 23, 1899. The First Philippine Republic was proclaimed along with Aguinaldo as President.

The Philippine Republic was the first republic in Asia and was also the first nation that rose up in arms against the Spanish colonial rule.

It adopted the Constitucion Politica de la Republice Filipina, drawn up by the Philippine Constitutional Convention in the Barasoain Church in Malolos in 1899 to the dictatorial government set up the Pact of Biak-na-Bato on July 7. 1897.

But it shouldn’t last long, the American had made a treat with the Spanish, the Treat of Paris, in 10. December 1898, and Philippines was handed over to the American from the Spain.

Here the Filipino had fought for their independence and now faces the same problem but with another mask. (Same shit in a new wrappings).

Anyway, Aguinaldo decide to go into a guerrilla war in 30. November and it last until he was captured by the Americans in Palanan, Isabela in 23 March, 1901. Aguinaldo announced his friendship with the Americans on April 1, 1901 who formally ended the first Republic of Philippines.

The Republic of the Philippines should see their independence once again when the American and Republic of the Philippines signed a treaty in Manila July 4, 1946. This treaty provided the recognition of the independence of the Republic of the Philippine Islands.

The flag day of the independence in the Philippines was later moved to June 12 by the President manuel L. Quezon to commemorate the proclamation of the Philippines independence. It was on June 12 ,1998 in Cavite Emilio Aguinaldo first proclaimed the independence of the Republic of the Philippine Islands.

Scavenging for Charcoal Fuel in the Rubbish of Manila, Philippines

No Birthdays

This soot-covered girl was six years old when the photo was taken, but she didn’t know her exact birthday, according to photographer Hartmut Schwarzbach of Argus Fotoarchiv. She had yet to go to school, and instead was searching for scrap metal to help her family. They live near an area where tires are being burned.

Project PEARLS started a program in the Ulingan community to celebrate children’s birthdays with cake and candles, ice cream, and noodles (for long life), and gifts and songs. “For most of our children in Ulingan, their birthdays come and go without celebrating or even knowing it,” Villa said.

Plastic bottles light up lives - CNN.com

World’s cheapest lightbilb?

Rather than seen as trash, plastic bottles are now being viewed as a cheap and sustainable way to light homes.

Shanty town homes in Manila are often built so close to each other that they have no windows or natural light. With electricity unaffordable or unavailable for many slum-inhabitants, many families often have to work, do chores, and eat in near darkness.

Now a simple innovation called the “Solar Bottle Bulb” is popping out of roofs and illuminating the lives of many.

Philippine jeepneys nearing end of a colorful road

“Virgilio Parcellano, a jeepney owner, says profit now comes before art.

“The truth is, it’s not about how beautiful your jeep is,” he says. “These days it’s more of a race to get as many passengers as you can.”

Parcellano points out that despite his love for his jeepney — it has six antennae and two horns on its hood, the names of his children emblazoned on the windshield and fierce characters painted on the sides — the design does little to raise the day’s earnings.”

Asia's most sinful cities

pinoytumblr:

Seven deadly sins — seven lively Asian cities. We all stray off the path of righteousness from time to time. So if you’re going to end up in hell due to a temptation to eat more than your fair share of stinky tofu, take a detour to Taipei first. Or if pride’s your vice, take a turn toward Manila.

3. Pride: Manila, Philippines

Much is made about the loveliness of the Filipino female. But you wouldn’t know it by talking to the Filipino men — they’re too busy gazing lustfully into the mirror.

According to a study from Synovate, Filipino men are the most narcissistic in Asia. A whopping 48 percent consider themselves sexually attractive.

And if the ladies reading this think the guys’ encounters with the brow tweazers are for your benefit, sorry — nine out of 10 Filipino men polled said they liked to look good for themselves, not anyone else.

By way of comparison, just 25 percent of men in Singapore considered themselves sexually attractive, 17 percent in China and Taiwan and a measly 12 percent of Hong Kong guys think the same.
